Splintered Star Technologies - Bastet by Raven-Gold Splintered Star Technologies - Bastet by Raven-Gold
So this started out as a project for an art competition, but I missed the deadline, but then I carried on with it and the idea turned into a new line of these military vehicle projects based on a new fictional, but non sci-fi, arms developer called Splinter Star Technologies. All of this will feature weapons and vehicles based on currently existing technologies and I'll be keeping science fiction to an absolute minimum in these new designs. First off I present to you the Splintered Star's "Bastet"!

-----

The Bastet V Chassis is developed to maximise versatility and ease of maintenance through a highly modular design that incorporates standardised mounting rigs and quick-removable sub-structures. The drive system is an incredibly fuel efficient series of electric motors housed within the hubs of each of the road wheels and two much larger and powerful motors housed internally at the rear, powering the drive sprockets. All of this is kept running by a relatively small diesel engine generator that is mechanically disconnected from the drive system and is exclusively there to generate electricity. This effectively cuts the fuel consumption of the Bastet down to a tenth of any other vehicle with a diesel engine in the same weight class.

The Bastet comes in two major chassis variants, one with a large turret, and one with a larger crew compartment, but no turret. From there, through the use of the modular subsystems, it can be converted, in a forward motor pool, from one of the secondary variants to another within a few hours.

Standard Bastet variants offered by Splintered Star range from a Battle- and Assault-Tank, with a wide range of options for armament, an IFV, a tank destroyer, and other more specialised combat systems. Due to the front engine layout, the chassis is even capable of carrying an infantry squad of up to 8 soldiers.

Ultimately the Bastet is not a cheap vehicle on an individual basis, but the very, very low operation costs will make sure the extra expenses have paid for themselves over time. It makes the Bastet the perfect platform for any nation. Richer nations will find it to be a superb vehicle for any mission. It can even be disassembled and air-transported within multiple aircraft for rapid deployment operations.

For poorer countries just starting to develop their tank battalions, it is a vehicle that has potential for long term sustainability, and the modular construction means it can be upgraded cheaply over the course of many, many years to keep up with the latest technologies.

Bastet V-155-A BT:
155mm Main Gun. 12.7mm Coaxial. 30mm Coaxial. 12.7mm Commander’s MG. 30mm AA gun with tracking radar. Auto-loading system for the main gun. Active projectile defence system. Infra-red signature scrambler. Ablative-Composite and Explosive-Reactive Armour Plating.

Fully equipped version for use as a Main Battle Tank, fitted with strong defensive and offensive systems. All armaments are variable, for example the main gun that can be re-equipped to be either manually or auto-loaded, and 155mm or 120mm guns.

-

Bastet V-155-A AT:
155mm Main Gun. 12.7mm Coaxial. 12.7mm Commander’s MG. 12.7mm mini-turret. Auto-loading system for the main gun. Active projectile defence system.

A lightly armoured, but highly mobile, assault tank with powerful armament for rapid strike missions. The High velocity 155mm gun carries the raw kinetic energy needed to penetrate the frontal armour of a battle tank that a traditional 120mm guns cannot pierce. This is the most basic and easily adapted variant of the Bastet; simply by adding the ablative armour panels, it can be easily upgraded to a Main Battle Tank.

-

Bastet V-155-B AT:
155mm Main Gun. 12.7mm Coaxial. 12.7mm Commander’s MG. 12.7mm Loader’s MG. Extra crew compartment for a designated loader. Active projectile defence system.

Similar to the V-155-A, this one has the Auto-loader system removed for customer-nations that require a 4-crewed tank. Can also be upgraded to a Battle Tank.

-

Bastet V-120-A AT:
120mm Main Gun. 12.7mm Coaxial. 12.7mm MG. 12.7mm mini-turret. Auto-loading system for the main gun. Active projectile defence system.

Assault Tank variant with a smoothbore 120mm gun for nations that do not require the excessive of firepower carried by the V-155-A and B. Can also be upgraded to a Battle Tank.

-

Bastet V-120-B AT:
120mm Main Gun. 12.7mm Coaxial.

-

Bastet V-155-L-7 TD:
155mm Main Gun. 12.7mm Commander’s MG. 12.7mm Gunner’s MG. 12.7mm Mini-turret. 160mm Anti-tank missile turret. Active projectile defence system.

Turret-less chassis variant that provides a larger internal crew compartment to make room for two loaders that service the magazine-loaded main gun. This Tank Destroyer variant, with a very large calibre, high velocity, main gun, and a sleek, low profile is perfect for ambush engagements and has limited capability as an artillery howitzer. The small turret, with a 160mm missile, mounted to the roof helps to provide 360 degree defence against heavily armoured targets outside of the main gun’s limited traverse.

-

Bastet V-50-50 IFV:
Twin 50mm Chain Guns. Twin 12.7mm Coaxial. 12.7mm Commander’s MG. 160mm Anti-tank missile turret. Aircraft Tracking Radar for turret. Active projectile defence system. Infra-red signature scrambler. Ablative-Composite and Explosive-Reactive Armour Plating.

The IFV variant of the Bastet is optimised to make use of the chassis’ integral ability to carry troops. The interior space in the hull has been stripped of all ammunition carrying facilities and four extra seats added, allowing it to carry up to twelve troops into battle. The Bastet IFV however is set apart from most dedicated troop carriers by the fact that it is fitted with the same ablative armour from the Battle Tank, offering an unprecedented protection rating while it runs troops into battle.

-

Bastet V-Gat-30-2 AA:
Twin 30mm 6-barrel Gatling cannons. x2 80mm missile pods. 12.7mm Commander’s MG. Precision radar target tracking Dish. Broad range radar seeking dish. Deployable stabiliser legs.

A mobile Anti-Aircraft vehicle for localised air-defence. The AT and BT variants can be converted to this setup within the span of a few hours simply by removing the regular turret and fitting the new one equipped with a powerful targeting radar. A secondary, smaller radar dish on a rotary mount provides all-round tracking data and can keep tabs on dozens of aerial targets at a time. It can also double as a communications dish to link to airborne radar systems. All weapons systems are replaceable to fit the needs of any customer nation.

-

Bastet V-CS EV:
12.7mm Commander’s MG, 12.7mm mini-turret. Lifting crane. Shovel Arm. Mine Plough.

Built on the turret-less chassis of the Bastet, this vehicle is a versatile platform that can offer any kind of field engineering support needed by the engineering regiments of customer nations. The modular construction of the Bastet chassis means that it can be customised in the field to suit whatever task it needs to fulfil. By default it comes fitted with all the standard gear a vehicle like this needs, but anything can be added or changed on purchase request.
